![]() ![]() One of the good points of using something like XLD to RIP and embed (or maintain) the metadata in your file is you are pretty much going to be aware of any mistakes, and will retain the ability to rebuild your entire music library simply by importing the physical files. They may show up as incorrectly named or spilt up albums, or exibit other odd or unwanted behavior.Īs other's have noted, using iTunes or Metadatics may be a better choice for what you want to do, but the last point above is one to consider. ![]() And you should also check exactly what those metadata changes do in your player by importing all your media files to a new library. There is an option in the XLD preferences to rewrite a file in place, but that would not work if the metadata changed that drastically. If indeed XLD created a new set of folders and files under new titles and such, then the metadata you changed interacted with your settings for file/folder naming, and XLD pretty much did what it was told to do, instead of what you wanted it to do. The "Transcode" title is pretty accurate actually, but I understand how it can be confusing. Then I copy the updated files from the iTunes music folder onto my external hard drives for stoage and playback with Audirvana Plus.ĭoug's AppleScripts for iTunes ♫ - Īny metadata editor is going to rewrite or copy the file when it makes changes to embedded metadata. I use XLD for ripping CD's, but I use Doug Adams' shareware Applescripts, in conjunction with 'ol reliable iTunes 10.7, to do all my music file management and metadata tagging. XLD is great, but it lacks an easy to use GUI for metadata editing. You can choose different preference options to overwrite the original files, delete them when converting formats, etc. It is simply replicating and renaming the new files, while preserving the original ones. XLD has preference options for this sort of thing. ![]() Instead, a new folder named "Lounge Jazz" was created within the original folder, and a whole new set of files with the new "Lounge Jazz" genre tag were in that folder. The files in the original folder were not changed. I highlighted all the tracks, changed the genre as mentioned above, and hit Transcribe. I'm apparently not using XLD correctly for metadata editing: I opened an AIFF album file using Open Folder as a Disc. ![]()
